Registration of the observations
All ornithological observations were registered in the databank OrniDB97–2.20, developed by Ralf Schirmeister (www.ralf-schirmeister.de for download) and were edited in two different ways. Under the heading "Excursions" one finds the complete records to the different observation places in chronological order. Under the heading "Species List" one finds the date, the place, and the number of observed individuals in systematic order. In the section Excursions some photos give an impression of the visited areas, in the Species List one finds some photos of birds taken by a Canon EOS 20D in combination with a telescope Swarovski AT 80 HD.

I drove from the Marismas de Trebujena on the very bad untarmacked road along the eastern bank of the River Guadalquivir about 7.5 km upstream. Next I followed for 11 km a straight tarmacked road to the left up to the point, where I again reached the eastern bank of the River Guadalquivir. From there I followed the untarmacked road and reached after the next 11 km a signpost to Brazo del Este. This was the point where the road from Los Palacios y Villafranca to Los Chapatales and Pinzón reaches the regulation of the Brazo del Este (Encauzamiento del Brazo del Este). The best route from Villamanrique de la Condesa to the visitor centre (Centro de Visitantes) José Antonio Valverde is the tarmacked road to Villafranco del Guadalquivir (Isla Mayor). Do not follow signposts to the centre before you reach Cortijo Los Madrigales. These are two white houses at the point, where the tarmacked road turns sharply to the left and crosses the valley of the river Guadiamar via a bridge. From Cortijo Los Madrigales a straight untarmacked road continues in south-western direction on the western dyke of the river Guadiamar. The distance to the centre from here is indicated with 22 km. After 11 km you have to turn right and to follow the signposted untarmacked road to the centre. The untarmacked road from Cortijo Los Madrigales is not very good, but I was told that all alternatives are still worse, especially after heavy rainfall. – The following bird species were observed on the route from Villamanrique de la Condesa to Cortijo Los Madrigales and an unsuccessful detour into the farmland west of the above described route.
