Introduction
From March 3–12, 2004 I spent 10 days for birdwatching in the Algarve (Portugal). I arrived by plain at Faro Airport. There I took over a prepaid car and drove to Praia do Ancão near Almancil, where I had booked an accommodation with half-board in the Formosa Hotel. From this base I reached the interesting sites between Portimão in the west and the River Guadiana in the east using mainly the coastal highway or the road 125. All these places I knew already from my visit in October 2002.

Itinerary
March 3, 2004:
Flight from Berlin via Palma de Mallorca to Faro. Arrival at 15:15. Take-over of a rented car and drive via Almancil to the Hotel Formosa. In the evening prior to sunset a walk along the beach.
March 4, 2004: Drive to Quinta de Marim near Olhão. Birdwatching in the Environmental Education Centre of Marim (Parc Natural de Ria Formosa).
March 5, 2004:
Drive to Castro Marim and birdwatching in the surroundings of the Biological Station at the River Guadiana as well as in the saltworks south-west of Castro Marim.

March 8, 2004:

Registration of the observations
All ornithological observations were registered in the databank OrniDB97–2.20, developed by Ralf Schirmeister (www.ralf-schirmeister.de for download) and were edited in two different ways. Under the heading "Excursions" one finds the complete records to the different observation places in chronological order. Under the heading "Species List" one finds the date, the place, and the number of observed individuals in systematic order.
