DSCN3477-2A-50 14.06.2003, 12:00-17:20 Park Narodowy "Ujście Warty", west of Słońsk, District Gorzów (Poland) 20 °C, fair. Coming on the road 133 from Czarnów I turned in Słońsk from the main road ul. 3-go Lutego left into the street Lipowa. I followed this road up to the traffic sign cul-de-sac. There I turned right and followed the path via Przyborów up to the car parking with the platform and the notice-board, which announces the National Park "Ujście Warty". From there I started my walk along the concrete road (betonowa droga) along the River Postomia up to its end past the bridge over the river. – Due to the dry spring the water level was much lower than in 2001 and 2002 in the mid of June. Therefore, many bird species seen during the previous visits in this area were absent in this year. Great Cormorant (Phalacrócorax carbo, Kormoran): 15 (3 + 1 + 4 + 2 +1 + 4), flying or swimming. Common Heron (Árdea cinérea, Graureiher): 12 (4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 4), flying or standing at the edge of flooded areas. Black Stork (Cicónia nigra, Schwarzstorch): 1, gliding over the area. White Stork (Cicónia cicónia, Weißstorch): 1, on grassland. DSCN3465-3 White Stork (Cicónia cicónia, Weißstorch) on grassland near the concrete road (14.06.2003) Mute Swan (Cygnus olor, Höckerschwan):
58, 28 of them foraging on grassland, 30 swimming on a ditch.
DSCN3475-A-50 14.06.2003, 18:35-19:30 Owczary, xerothermic turfs east of the village, District Gorzów (Poland) 20 °C, overcast. From the National Park "Ujście Warty" I drove via Charnów, Zabice, Górzyca to Owczary. I parked the car in front of the Museum of the Meadows and walked as last year through the steppe-like grassland east of the village. – The following bird species were registered. Pheasant (Phasiánus cólchicus, Fasan): 1, calling. Street Pigeon (Colúmba lívia f. doméstica, Haustaube): 1, flying. Wood Pigeon (Colúmba palúmbus, Ringeltaube): 2, flying. Collared Turtle Dove (Streptopélia decaócto, Türkentaube): 2, calling. Turtle-Dove (Streptopélia turtur, Turteltaube): 1, calling, later in display flight. White terminal tail bar smaller than in Collared Dove. Common Swift (Apus apus, Mauersegler): 20, flying. Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrócopos major, Buntspecht): 1, calling. Skylark (Aláuda arvénsis, Feldlerche): 2, singing. Barn Swallow (Hirúndo rústica, Rauchschwalbe): 1, flying. White Wagtail (Motacílla alba, Bachstelze): 1. Robin (Eríthacus rubécula, Rotkehlchen): 1, singing. Nightingale (Luscínia megarhýnchos, Nachtigall): 2, singing. Blackbird (Turdus mérula, Amsel): 2, singing. Yellowhammer (Emberíza citrinélla, Goldammer): 2, singing, on a fence or in a shrub. Corn Bunting (Miliaria calándra, Grauammer): 1, singing in a shrub. 14.06.2003, 19:30-21:30 Owczary, through the meadows to the River Odra, District Gorzów (Poland) 20 °C, overcast. Sunset at 21:15. From the village Owczary I walked on a track through the meadows to the bank of the River. Common Buzzard (Búteo búteo, Mäusebussard): 1, on a tree. Pheasant (Phasiánus cólchicus, Fasan): 1 male, on the track. Crane (Grus grus, Kranich): 2, calling. Common Cuckoo (Cúculus canórus, Kuckuck): 1, calling. Crested Lark (Galerída cristáta, Haubenlerche): 1, on the track. Skylark (Aláuda arvénsis, Feldlerche): 4, singing. Barn Swallow (Hirúndo rústica, Rauchschwalbe): 5, flying. Bluethroat (Luscínia svécica, Blaukehlchen): 1 male, in shrubs near the track.. The blue throat with a white patch, bordered by a black-white and a broader rusty-red band as well as the rusty-red tail basis and the white supercilium could be well recognized. Stonechat (Saxícola torquáta, Schwarzkehlchen): 1 male, in a shrub. Reed Warbler (Acrocéphalus scirpáceus, Teichrohrsänger): 1, singing. Great Reed Warbler (Acrocéphalus arundináceus, Drosselrohrsänger): 1, singing, in a reedbed. Whitethroat (Sýlvia commúnis, Dorngrasmücke): 2, near the track in shrubs. Red-backed Shrike (Lánius collúrio, Rotrückenwürger): 1 male, in a shrub. Common Raven (Corvus corax, Kolkrabe): 5, roosting on a tree. Tree Sparrow (Passer montánus, Feldsperling): 2, on the track. Yellowhammer (Emberíza citrinélla, Goldammer): 1, near the bridge. Reed Bunting (Emberíza schoeníclus, Rohrammer): 4 (3,1), on grassland near the track. Corn Bunting (Miliaria calándra, Grauammer): 7, singing, in shrubs along the track. Hare (Lepus europáeus, Hase): 1, on the track. Roe (Capréolus capréolus, Reh): 1, on grassland. 14.06.2003, 20:30-20:45 Owczary, riverbank of the Odra, District Gorzów (Poland) 20 °C, overcast. Sunset at 21:15. At the riverbank of the Odra and in the deciduous wood along the river the following bird species were observed. Mallard (Anas platyrhýnchos, Stockente): 3, at the water's edge. Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginósus, Rohrweihe): 1, gliding over grassland. Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibúndus, Lachmöwe): 2 swimming. Common Cuckoo (Cúculus canórus, Kuckuck): 3, calling. Yellow Wagtail (Motacílla flava, Schafstelze): 1, on grassland. Nightingale (Luscínia megarhýnchos, Nachtigall): 1, singing. Blackbird (Turdus mérula, Amsel): 1, singing. Yellowhammer (Emberíza citrinélla, Goldammer): 1, singing. 15.06.2003, 07:30 Słońsk, surroundings of the Hotel Hubertus, District Gorzów (Poland) 15 °C, sunny. The following bird species were observed in the surroundings of the Hotel Hubertus. This Hotel is situated at the main road ul. 3-go Lutego at the eastern end of the town. Collared Turtle Dove (Streptopélia decaócto, Türkentaube): 1, calling. Common Swift (Apus apus, Mauersegler): 3, flying. Garden Warbler (Sýlvia borin, Gartengrasmücke): 1, singing. Black-billed Magpie (Pica pica, Elster): 1, on a tree. Jackdaw (Corvus monédula, Dohle): 2, on a construction site near the hotel. House Sparrow (Passer domésticus, Haussperling): 2, near the hotel. 15.06.2003, 08:15-15:15 Park Narodowy "Ujście Warty", east of Słońsk, District Gorzów (Poland) 15 °C, sunny. From the round-about in the centre of Słońsk, now under construction, I drove to the church and to the remainders of the castle. Then I followed the ul. Poniatkowskiego. After about 200 m I turned left (northwards) into ul. F. Chopina, an untarmacked road, which reached after about 2,5 km the pumping station. There I parked the car and walked along the dyke about 5 km up to the point, where I could cross a bridge at my left-hand side. By this way I reached the meadows between the dyke and the River Warta. In this area I walked about 3 km westwards. After my return to the bridge I followed the road on the dyketop another 1000 m eastwards. Then I went back to the pumping station and the parking car. – The following bird species were observed. Great Cormorant (Phalacrócorax carbo, Kormoran): 7, flying. Common Heron (Árdea cinérea, Graureiher): 7, flying or in the wetland. Black Stork (Cicónia nigra, Schwarzstorch): 1, gliding over wetland. White Stork (Cicónia cicónia, Weißstorch): 6, in wetland. Mute Swan (Cygnus olor, Höckerschwan): 1 ad., swimming. Common Buzzard (Búteo búteo, Mäusebussard): 6, flying or on trees. Pheasant (Phasiánus cólchicus, Fasan): 1 male, flying-off. Lapwing (Vanéllus vanéllus, Kiebitz): 14 (2 + 5 + 7), flying. Street Pigeon (Colúmba lívia f. doméstica, Haustaube): 6, flying. Wood Pigeon (Colúmba palúmbus, Ringeltaube): 3, on the track. White Wagtail (Motacílla alba, Bachstelze): 2, on grassland. Thrush Nightingale (Luscínia luscínia, Sprosser): 3, singing, along the route (tape-recordings, DAT tape 7). Fieldfare (Turdus piláris, Wacholderdrossel): 3, 1 flying, with food, 2 warning in a shrub. Sedge Warbler (Acrocéphalus schoenobáenus, Schilfrohrsänger): 2, singing, near the pumping station. Marsh Warbler (Acrocéphalus palústris, Sumpfrohrsänger): 1, singing (Tape-recordings, DAT tape 7). Reed Warbler (Acrocéphalus scirpáceus, Teichrohrsänger): 3, singing. Great Reed Warbler (Acrocéphalus arundináceus, Drosselrohrsänger): 2, singing. Lesser Whitethroat (Sýlvia currúca, Klappergrasmücke): 1, singing. Whitethroat (Sýlvia commúnis, Dorngrasmücke): 6, singing, along the route. Garden Warbler (Sýlvia borin, Gartengrasmücke): 4, singing, along the route. Blackcap (Sýlvia atricapílla, Mönchsgrasmücke): 2, singing. Willow Warbler (Phyllóscopus tróchilus, Fitis): 13, 8 of them singing along the route, 5 as a family in shrubs. Red-backed Shrike (Lánius collúrio, Rotrückenwürger): 1 male, on a tree. Great Grey Shrike (Lánius excubítor, Raubwürger): 1, on a dead tree. Black-billed Magpie (Pica pica, Elster): 3, on the track. Hooded Crow (Corvus coróne cornix, Nebelkrähe): 7, along the route. Starling (Sturnus vulgáris, Star): 33 (1 + 12 + 20), flying. Tree Sparrow (Passer montánus, Feldsperling): 8, at the pumping station, breeding in nests of House Martins. Chaffinch (Fringílla coelebs, Buchfink): 6, singing, along the route. Greenfinch (Chloris chloris, Grünfink): 1, singing. Linnet (Carduélis cannábina, Bluthänfling): 1 male, in a reedbed. Hawfinch (Coccothráustes coccothráustes, Kernbeißer): 1, landing on a tree. Yellowhammer (Emberíza citrinélla, Goldammer): 4, along the route. Reed Bunting (Emberíza schoeníclus, Rohrammer): 7, along the route. Among these birds were at least 3 males. Grass Snake (Natrix natrix, Ringelnatter): 1, swimming near the pumping station. A snake with yellow patches on the sides of the head. |
