Introduction

From 07 – 10 June, 2007 I spent 4 days in the Hungarian districts Heves, Hajdú-Bihar, and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok. During this time I observed birds on the steppe- and wetland as well as at the fishponds of the Hortobágy National Park. Thereafter I participated in a Conference in Tihány at Lake Balaton.

Itinerary
June 07, 2007: Arrival on Budapest Airport by Malév from Berlin-Tegel at about 11.00. Take-over of a rented car from Europcar and drive via Ecser, Nagytarsca, and Kistarcsa to the motorway M3, which I used as far as exit Füzesabony/Eger/Debrecen at kilometre 114. Then I moved on road 33 to Poroszló at the Tisza Reservoir. Birdwatching at the west side of this Nature Reserve. In the late afternoon continuation of the drive to Hajdúszoboszló, where I was accommodated for the next  three nights in the Panzió Júlia.
June 08, 2007: Drive from Hajdúszoboszló on road 33 to the offfice of the National Park in Hortobágy. Purchase of a ticket for the visits to special areas of the park. Thereafter drive to the Hortobágy Fishponds and hiking tour on the main track around the ponds.
June 09, 2007: Drive from Hajdúszoboszló on road 33 to Szálkohalom, one of the demonstration areas of the Hortobágy National Park. Birdwatching around the great rookery. In the afternoon visit of the Derzsi and Gyökérkúti Fishponds north of road 33. On the return journey observation stops in the steppeland (puszta) near Tiszascege and Cserepes.
June 10, 2007: Drive from Hajdúszoboszló on road 33 to the marshland of Pustakócs. Hiking tour from the Meggyes csárda muzeum to the observation tower in the reedbed of Fekete rét (Black Meadow). In the late afternoon drive on the motorways M3, M0, and M7 to Tihány on the northern shore of Lake Balaton.
June 11–13, 2007: Participation in a conference in the Club Hotel Tihány. Recording of birds only in the park of the Tihány Club and during a walk to the abbey in the centre of the town.

Recording of the observations
All ornithological observations were registered in the databank OrniDB97–2.20, developed by Ralf Schirmeister (www.ralf-schirmeister.de for download) and were edited in two different ways. Under the heading "Excursions" one finds the complete records of the different observation places in chronological order. Under the heading "Species List" one finds the date, the place, and the number of observed individuals in systematic order. In the section "Excursions" some photos give an impression of the areas visited. In the Species List one finds some photos of birds taken with a Canon EOS 20D in combination with a telephoto lens Canon EF 600 mm, f/4L IS USM and the Extender EF 2x II.
