Introduction
From December 28, 2011 – January 02, 2012 I spent
4 days in Rügen, the largest island of Germany. This trip was not devoted to bird watching, but for a short end of year holiday with my wife.
All birds observed during hiking tours along the beach between Binz and Prora,
as well as on hiking tours in the Nature Reserve Granitz and around the lake
Schmachter See were registered for this report.
Itinerary
December 28, 2011: Drive by train from Berlin
to Binz via Rostock and Stralsund. In the late afternoon walk from the
Strandhotel Binz along the beach to the southern edge of the sea resort.
December 29, 2011: Hiking tour from Strandhotel Binz through the Nature
Reserve Granitz to Jagdschloß Granitz (Hunting Lodge Granitz).
December 30, 2011: Hiking tour from Strandhotel Binz along the beach to
Prora. Back in Binz short visit of the lake Schmachter See.
December 31, 2011: Drive by rail from Binz to Sellin and hiking tour from
Sellin back to Binz through the Nature Reserve Granitz.
January 01, 2012: Hiking tour from Binz to the small village Schmacht
along the western side of the lake Schachter See.
January 02, 2012: In the morning
drive by rail back to Berlin via Stralsund, Greifswald, Anklam et al..
Registration of the observations
All ornithological observations were registered in the databank
OrniDB97–2.20, developed by Ralf Schirmeister (www.ralf-schirmeister.de for
download) and were edited in two different ways. Under the heading "Excursions"
one finds the complete records to the different observation places in
chronological order. Under the heading "Species List" one finds the date, the place, and the number of observed individuals
in systematic order. In the section Excursions some photos give an impression
of the visited areas, in the Species List one finds some photos of birds
taken by a Panasonic Lumix G3 in combination with the telephoto lens Lumix G Vario 1:4.0-5.6/100-300 mm.
